Five countries pledge troops to Gaza security force

Five countries have pledged troops to take part in an international security force (ISF) for Gaza, the force’s commander said on Thursday, outlining early deployment plans and longer-term goals.

Speaking at a meeting of President Donald Trump’s newly established Board of Peace in Washington, ISF commander Major General Jasper Jeffers said Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo and Albania had committed troops to the mission. Egypt and Jordan, he added, have agreed to provide police training.

Jeffers said the force would initially deploy to Rafah in southern Gaza, where it would focus on training local police before expanding operations “sector by sector” across the territory.

Under current planning, the ISF would eventually comprise around 20,000 troops and oversee the training of approximately 12,000 police officers, he said.
