Nigerian authorities ban song criticizing President Tinubu

Nigerian authorities have banned the song Tell Your Papa by artist Eedris Abdulkareem from being played on radio and TV. The song, which criticizes President Bola Tinubu and his son Seyi, highlights issues of hardship, insecurity, and hunger in the country.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) ordered the ban, calling the song’s content “inappropriate” and “objectionable” under the country’s broadcast code.

Released earlier this week, Tell Your Papa has sparked debate over the country’s economic and security situation, particularly following Tinubu’s controversial economic reforms, including the removal of the fuel subsidy. Abdulkareem, known for his critical stance on government policies, urges the president’s son to confront the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.

In the past, Abdulkareem’s music has attracted government backlash, with his 2003 hit Nigeria Jaga Jaga also banned but becoming a popular anthem among Nigerians.
