Indian Oil Corporation’s Mauritius unit has broken ground on a new bunker fuel storage facility, deepening energy ties between the two nations.
The facility in Mer Rouge will hold 27,500 metric tonnes of fuel, backed by a $25 million investment from the company.
India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, laid the foundation stone on August 21.
IndianOil Mauritius said it plans to raise bunkering volumes beyond 400,000 kilolitres by the 2029-30 fiscal year.
The groundbreaking coincided with a broader energy partnership, sealed through a memorandum of understanding and a supply agreement.
Those documents were exchanged in Port Louis, witnessed by Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and Puri.
The memorandum covers cooperation on petroleum product supply between the two governments.
The accompanying agreement, between Mauritius’ State Trading Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation, aims to secure continuous white oil supplies.
Ramgoolam called the deals further proof of the enduring partnership between Mauritius and India.
