Iran allegedly plotted to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s eldest son, Yair, while he was living in South Florida, according to a US media report citing an unnamed law-enforcement source.
Israeli intelligence learned of the alleged plot in December 2025 and alerted US authorities, Newsmax reported.
The intelligence reportedly indicated that Iranian operatives were already in the Miami area and had been monitoring Yair Netanyahu’s home and movements. He was subsequently instructed to leave Florida immediately and returned unexpectedly to Israel, according to the report.
No arrests, suspects or operational details were disclosed, and neither US nor Israeli authorities have publicly presented evidence supporting the allegations. Iran has not publicly responded to the latest report.
The account emerged days after Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his two sons.
“Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to kill, to murder one of my sons,” Netanyahu told Israel’s Channel 14, without identifying the alleged target or providing details about when or how the purported attempt occurred.
At the time, Yair Netanyahu was widely considered the likely target because he had been living near Miami. Subsequent reports identified him specifically, although the central claim remains based on a single unnamed US law-enforcement source.
The disclosure comes amid controversy in Israel over the unusually extensive state-funded protection afforded to Netanyahu’s family ahead of the general election scheduled for October 27.
A ministerial committee overseeing matters related to the Shin Bet security agency reportedly approved an arrangement in July extending protection for Netanyahu’s sons, Yair and Avner, for five years. His wife, Sara, was granted lifetime protection regardless of whether Netanyahu remains in office after the election.
Netanyahu invoked the alleged Iranian threat while defending those measures, arguing that the protection provided to his family was “not a luxury.”
The alleged Miami plot follows reports of Iranian threats against Israeli and American officials and their relatives. However, officials have not publicly established who was involved in the purported operation or how close it came to being carried out.
