Russia grants asylum to Syria’s Assad and his family

Bashar al-Assad, the deposed president of Syria, has arrived in Moscow with his family after being granted asylum by Russia.

A Kremlin source confirmed to TASS that the asylum was granted based on humanitarian grounds.

This follows a series of clashes between Assad’s forces and opposition groups in Syria, which reignited on November 27 near Aleppo.

Within days, opposition forces seized key cities, including the capital, Damascus, marking the collapse of Assad’s regime after 13 years of civil war.

Russia’s offer of asylum strengthens its alliance with Assad, even as Syria’s future remains uncertain.
