France denies extradition of former Burkina president’s brother

In a recent development, France has rescinded a ministerial decree that previously sanctioned the extradition of Paul François Compaoré, the brother of Burkina Faso’s former president.

Compaoré, sibling to Blaise who held the presidency from 1987 to 2014, faces accusations of involvement in the killing of a journalist in 1998.

Tensions between the military junta in Burkina Faso and France, its former colonial power, have intensified, resulting in the expulsion of diplomatic officials, including the French ambassador, and the suspension of select French media outlets.

Adding to the discord, reports emerged of the purported arrest of four French IT workers possessing diplomatic passports and visas in the capital city of Ouagadougou.
