
The Illegal Immigration Combat Unit of Libya announced that 350 irregular migrants from various African countries were apprehended in the city of Barak al-Shati in the south of the country.
According to the statement from the Illegal Immigration Combat Unit, security forces conducted raids on the shelters of irregular migrants in Barak al-Shati, where it was found that some shelters were used for illegal activities such as drug use and prostitution. The statement mentioned that 350 irregular migrants from various African countries were apprehended during the raids.
Furthermore, another statement from the Unit mentioned that 54 Egyptian irregular migrants were deported to their country.
It was shared that among the Egyptian migrants, 5 individuals were carrying the Hepatitis C virus.
The Illegal Immigration Combat Unit had previously announced on June 2 that 52 Egyptian irregular migrants, including those with illnesses, were sent back to their countries.
Libya is seen as a departure point for irregular migrants attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.
