Sudan’s political landscape remains in turmoil, with General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, leader of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), facing new accusations from, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Dagalo accused al-Burhan and his allies of desperately attempting to shift the narrative surrounding the ongoing conflict in the country.
Dagalo said that al-Burhan and his supporters are trying to obscure their responsibility for igniting the conflict on April 15, stating that “they ignited the war with the aim of turning back the clock and restoring the corrupt state of favoritism and empowerment.”
The accusation comes amid ongoing clashes between the SAF and RSF, which have further destabilized an already fragile Sudan.
The RSF leader also took aim at al-Burhan’s recent address at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit, accusing the general of using “hollow rhetoric filled with lies and baseless claims” in a bid to legitimize his leadership.
According to Dagalo, al-Burhan’s attempts to mask the true situation in Sudan have failed, as the international community remains fully aware of the reality on the ground.
Dagalo further accused al-Burhan of committing atrocities against civilians, destroying infrastructure, and prolonging the conflict to serve the interests of Sudan’s former regime, which he claims seeks to maintain its grip on power.
Since gaining independence, Sudan has been plagued by state-sponsored violence that has deprived its people of peace, Dagalo said. He also highlighted growing calls from the Sudanese population for international and regional actors to support the RSF and the broader movement for democracy.
Despite the ongoing violence, Dagalo expressed hope that coordinated efforts between the Sudanese people and the international community could lead to a breakthrough, paving the way for a democratic and stable future for Sudan.
