Lebanon peace deal hinges on three Israeli conditions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has outlined three key conditions for a potential settlement with the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

These conditions include:

  • Hezbollah’s Withdrawal: Keeping Hezbollah away from Israel’s northern border.
  • Supply Line Disruption: Cutting off Hezbollah’s supply lines from Syria.
  • Israeli Freedom of Action: Granting Israel the freedom to operate within southern Lebanon.

Netanyahu framed the ongoing conflict as a broader struggle against Iran, which he views as the primary instigator of regional tensions.

The US, a key ally of Israel, is currently mediating between Israel and Lebanon to broker a ceasefire agreement.

US envoy Amos Hochstein is expected to visit Beirut to receive Lebanon’s response to a proposed ceasefire.

While Israel seeks a deal that allows its military to respond to perceived violations, Lebanon has firmly rejected any compromise on its sovereignty.

Netanyahu also addressed the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza.

He claimed significant progress in weakening Hamas’s military capabilities but acknowledged the group’s continued control over essential services.

Domestically, Netanyahu criticized ongoing leaks of sensitive information, which he believes have compromised Israel’s security and strategic planning.

In a separate development, a surge in plastic waste is causing significant disruptions to the Ruzizi hydroelectric dam in eastern Congo.

The accumulation of plastic debris is blocking the dam’s machinery, leading to frequent power outages in several major cities.

Local authorities are working to address the issue by implementing stricter waste management regulations and increasing public awareness campaigns.
