The European Union announced it will recall its ambassador from Niger after the military-led government accused the EU of mishandling €1.3 million in flood relief funds.
Niger’s junta alleged the funds were distributed among international NGOs without transparency or coordination with local authorities, prompting an audit.
In response, the EU rejected the accusations, stating, “The European Union expresses profound disagreement with the allegations,” and confirmed the envoy’s recall for consultations in Brussels.
Niger has been under military rule since a 2023 coup.
