The head of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has stepped down from his position, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
This comes as the country continues to grapple with ongoing challenges to its oil production, including disruptions caused by armed groups.
Mustafa Sanallah’s successor, Masoud Sulaiman, has been appointed by the Government of National Unity (GNU) head Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah to serve as acting NOC chief until a new board of directors is formed.
The NOC plays a crucial role in Libya’s economy, overseeing the country’s oil and gas production, a vital sector for the nation.
This development comes amidst ongoing efforts to stabilize Libya’s oil sector and address the numerous challenges it faces, including political instability and security threats.
