UN seeks $910 million to aid 3.6 million Nigerians

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) launched an appeal for $910 million to provide life-saving assistance to 3.6 million people in northeastern Nigeria.

The appeal focuses on Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, which have been severely impacted by years of conflict, climate shocks, and economic instability.

OCHA spokesperson Jens Laerke highlighted the need for urgent humanitarian assistance, including food, water, sanitation, healthcare, nutrition, and protection services for vulnerable populations.

The agency emphasized the importance of efficient aid delivery, including reducing transaction costs by funding local organizations and utilizing cash-based assistance whenever possible.

This appeal underscores the critical need for international support to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in northeastern Nigeria and provide essential assistance to those in need.
