A Swiss aid group, Swiss Church Aid (HEKS/EPER), announced on Thursday that three of its local employees were killed during an attack while carrying out humanitarian work in eastern Congo.
The attack occurred on Wednesday in Rutshutu Territory, located about 50 kilometers north of Goma, a city recently captured by the M23 rebel group.
HEKS/EPER, which provides vital aid to victims of armed conflicts, did not specify the nature of the attack or the perpetrators.
The aid group has suspended its programs in the area and established a task force to investigate the incident.
This attack underscores the significant risks faced by humanitarian workers operating in conflict zones.
