Mediators reach deal for prisoner swap and hostage remains

Mediators have brokered an agreement for the release of Palestinian prisoners originally scheduled to be freed by Israel last Saturday, alongside the return of Israeli hostages’ bodies by Hamas, an Egyptian source said Wednesday.

The source, who has knowledge of the negotiations, stated that the exchange will take place under Egyptian supervision, though no specific date has been set.

The Gaza-based militant group Al-Nasser Salah al-Deen Brigades, allied with Hamas, confirmed it will return the body of Israeli hostage Ohad Yahalomi on Thursday.

Yahalomi’s remains are among four bodies that Hamas has agreed to hand over as part of the initial phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The ceasefire, which began on January 19, is progressing through its first phase and has largely held, despite mutual accusations of violations.
