In a landmark move to bolster Ghana’s burgeoning space sector, Axiom Space, a leader in commercial space infrastructure, and the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute (GSSTI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing Ghana’s space ecosystem and promoting global access to space.
This strategic partnership aligns seamlessly with Ghana’s recently launched National Space Policy, which seeks to harness space technology for economic growth, national security, and sustainable development.
Unveiled on November 5, 2024, the policy provides a framework for integrating space science into key sectors such as agriculture, environmental monitoring, telecommunications, navigation, and disaster management.
The MoU between Axiom Space and GSSTI focuses on key areas including innovation, workforce development, and the advancement of space science and technology.
Through this collaboration, GSSTI aims to leverage Axiom Space’s extensive expertise in human spaceflight and cutting-edge technologies to support its initiatives and long-term vision.
Dr. Joseph Bremang Tandoh, Director of GSSTI, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration opens new frontiers for innovation and research, enhancing Ghana’s presence in the global space industry.”
Tejpaul Bhatia, Axiom Space’s Chief Revenue Officer, highlighted the joint commitment to expanding space access, calling Ghana’s space ambitions “truly inspiring.” He added, “The adoption of a national space policy is a major step forward. By combining Axiom Space’s expertise with Ghana’s vision, we are creating new opportunities for innovation and exploration.”
