Egypt has firmly denied recent claims from Israeli media suggesting plans to temporarily relocate 500,000 Palestinians to North Sinai as part of Gaza’s reconstruction.
The Egyptian State Information Service (SIS) called the reports “false” and stressed that they contradicted Egypt’s steadfast stance on the Palestinian issue.
In a statement, Cairo reaffirmed its “absolute and final rejection” of any attempt to displace Palestinians from Gaza, whether forced or voluntary.
Egypt emphasized that such actions would undermine the Palestinian cause and pose a serious threat to national security.
The denial comes amid ongoing violence in Gaza. Since Israel’s aerial campaign resumed on March 19, over 700 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 900 others injured.
This follows the collapse of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement established earlier this year.
Egypt’s SIS also highlighted the country’s diplomatic efforts to support Gaza’s reconstruction, notably through a plan presented at the Arab Summit in March.
The plan ensures that no Palestinian would be displaced from Gaza, with the unanimous backing of summit participants.
The controversy also coincides with Israel’s mounting international scrutiny.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli officials over alleged war crimes in Gaza, while a genocide case is being pursued at the International Court of Justice.
Egypt’s categorical rejection underscores its commitment to the integrity of Palestinian land and its central role in the ongoing geopolitical crisis.
