At least 37 people died and 30 others were injured when two buses collided and erupted in flames in a remote area of northern Tanzania on Saturday evening.
The tragic incident occurred in the Sabasaba area along the Moshi–Tanga highway, located within the Kilimanjaro region.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed profound sorrow on Sunday following the horrific crash.
“I send my heartfelt condolences to Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Nurdin Babu, the bereaved families, relatives, and friends,” President Hassan stated.
“May God grant peace to the souls of the departed and a quick recovery to the injured.
May He comfort and strengthen their families during this difficult time.”
The identities and nationalities of the victims have not yet been released.
Call for Enhanced Road Safety
President Hassan also urged stricter adherence to road safety regulations, highlighting the continuing toll such tragedies exact on Tanzanian families.
Despite repeated government calls and various safety campaigns in recent years, road fatalities remain a persistent challenge across the country.
