Kenya drops visa rules for most African and Caribbean visitors

Kenya has scrapped visa requirements for travellers from every African state—except Libya and Somalia—and from most Caribbean nations, allowing them to enter without an electronic travel authorisation or fees, the cabinet announced Monday.

Under the new policy:

  • Africans may stay up to 60 days, while citizens of East African Community (EAC) members can remain for six months under existing free-movement deals.
  • Travellers will receive border clearance on arrival; a fast-track passenger-information system is being introduced to cut processing times to 72 hours or less.
  • Digital-nomad work permits and a 12-hour electronic transit pass, revealed earlier by President William Ruto, will roll out this year.

Officials say the move supports open-skies goals and should lift post-pandemic tourism. Kenya joins Ghana, Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia and Benin in offering visa-free entry to all African passport holders.
