Trump urges fair deal on Nile dam as Egypt praises US efforts

Egypt has welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent intervention in the ongoing Nile River dam dispute.

Trump called for a “just agreement” concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

He emphasized the Nile’s vital importance as a source of life for Egypt.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi lauded Trump’s statements on X, expressing appreciation.

Sisi noted the seriousness of U.S. efforts to resolve conflicts globally.

He affirmed Egypt’s support for a peaceful resolution benefiting all parties.

Ethiopia announced the GERD’s completion in early July.

An official inauguration is planned for September.

Construction on the massive dam commenced in 2011.

The GERD has become a major point of contention.

Egypt, particularly, fears significant reductions in its crucial Nile water share.

Despite extensive negotiations, a binding agreement remains elusive.

These talks involved the African Union and international mediators.
