Three Nigerian police officers were killed and seven abducted when unidentified gunmen ambushed a patrol in the Agu area of Benue State on Sunday, authorities said.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said security forces were deployed after the assault and six suspects were detained.
Nigeria has seen a rise in armed attacks by criminal gangs and jihadist factions such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Kidnappings for ransom remain common, with villages, schools and travelers frequently targeted despite harsh penalties under law.
