Gen Z 212 marches across Moroccan cities demanding change now

Young demonstrators in Morocco took to the streets Saturday, demanding urgent reforms in education and health sectors. Protesters called for stronger measures against corruption and the release of individuals detained during earlier demonstrations.

Hundreds gathered in Rabat, Casablanca, and Tangier, chanting slogans for freedom, dignity, and social justice across city streets. The “Gen Z 212 Movement” spearheaded the rallies, marking the continuation of demonstrations held between September 27 and October 9.

The youth group announced plans to stage protests every Saturday and Sunday to maintain pressure on authorities. In response, the Moroccan government accelerated reform projects in health and education, aiming to meet key public demands.

The movement’s momentum reflects growing frustration among young Moroccans seeking tangible change and a stronger voice in governance. Observers note that the protests are largely peaceful, though authorities remain vigilant in managing potential clashes during weekend rallies.

Analysts say Gen Z 212 is emerging as a symbol of youth activism, blending social media influence with street mobilisation. The demonstrations underscore a broader call for transparency, accountability, and long-term social reforms in Moroccan society today.
