President Kais Saied extends the state of emergency in Tunisia

Tunisian President Kais Saied has extended the country’s long-running state of emergency by 11 months, according to the official gazette published on Friday.

The extension will keep emergency powers in force until December 31, reinforcing extraordinary security measures across the North African nation.

Tunisia has remained under a state of emergency since 2015, following a deadly attack that killed several members of the presidential guard.

The decision underscores the enduring shadow of security threats shaping governance in Tunisia nearly a decade after the original assault.
