Four children killed in stabbing attack at Kampala school

Four children were fatally stabbed at a nursery school in Uganda’s capital Kampala, police said, in an attack that has shocked the country and raised urgent concerns over school security.

Authorities said the victims — three boys and one girl aged between two and three — were killed at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Programme School in the Makindye Division of the city.

Police confirmed that a 34-year-old suspect had been arrested at the scene, adding that investigations are ongoing and the motive remains unclear.

According to police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, angry parents gathered outside the school after news of the attack spread and attempted to lynch the suspect before officers intervened and took him into custody.

Uganda’s police chief, Abas Byakagaba, visited the site alongside senior officers and urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue.

Local media reports said the suspect allegedly posed as a parent to gain access to the school before carrying out the attack after speaking with an administrator. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed those details.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage and grief across Uganda, with videos circulating on social media showing distressed families and crowds gathered outside the school seeking information about their children.
