
At least 44 people have been killed in coordinated attacks across multiple communities in Nigeria’s northwestern Kebbi State, police said.
The assaults struck villages in Shanga Local Government Area, including Gebe, Kalkami, Kawara, Kasoshi, Awaye, Tungar Rini, Binuwa, and Dabe.
The violence came a day after Nigerian Army brigadier I A Braimah was killed in Borno State ambush militants there.
Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said the attacks prompted a statewide clearance operation targeting banditry and other violent crimes ongoing efforts.
Massive deployments of security forces have been carried out restoring relative calm in the affected communities Usman said recently reported.
Operations focus on high-risk areas including forests, farmlands, border communities and remote settlements exploited by armed groups strategy in place.
Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information sharing critical updates.
He also called on traditional rulers community leaders religious groups and youth organisations to support peace efforts across the state.
Terrorism banditry and armed attacks remain a major security challenge in northwestern Nigeria affecting rural communities on a daily basis.
