
The Tunisia-hosted segment of African Lion 2026 concluded in the northern city of Bizerte, ending major multinational military drills.
Tunisia’s Defense Ministry said the exercise ended Wednesday with military and civilian officials from Tunisia and the United States present.
Observers from friendly nations also attended the closing ceremony, underscoring growing regional and international military cooperation in the exercise framework.
It began April 13 with more than 500 Tunisian and US personnel conducting land, air, and naval training exercises across domains.
The ministry said the 22nd edition achieved objectives in planning, operational execution, and logistical support across multiple levels successfully met.
Participants enhanced skills, developed capabilities, and improved interoperability and multilateral coordination against unconventional and cross-border threats and emerging regional challenges.
African Lion 2026 is among Africa’s largest military exercises, running from April 13 to May 8 across participating nations involved.
Forces from more than 30 countries participate under US and Morocco leadership, with Tunisia, Ghana, and Senegal hosting segments parts.
The exercise integrates artificial intelligence and future warfare technologies, improving readiness, counterterrorism capabilities, and response to cross-border threats collective security.
