South African police have opened an investigation into the death of national team midfielder Jayden Adams, whose body was found at a property in Cape Town over the weekend.
The 25-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns player represented South Africa at the 2026 World Cup, helping the national side reach the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time.
Adams’ body was discovered on Saturday morning at a residence on Military Road in Cape Town’s Schotsche Kloof neighbourhood, according to local media reports.
Police said an inquest docket had been opened to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. No cause of death has been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, urged the public and media to avoid speculation while authorities continue their inquiries.
Tributes were held for Adams at World Cup matches over the weekend, including moments of silence in his memory.
