Jordan and Ethiopia deepen trade and investment cooperation

Jordan and Ethiopia have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen trade, investment and economic cooperation between their business communities.

The agreement was signed by Jordan Chamber of Commerce President Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq and Ethiopian Chamber President Sebsib Abafira Abajobir.

The MoU establishes a framework for facilitating trade, developing business activities, exchanging delegations and identifying investment opportunities.

It also promotes cooperation in training, capacity building, sustainability, digital transformation, innovation and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The two chambers will establish a Jordanian-Ethiopian Joint Business Council to coordinate initiatives and guide future economic cooperation.

The agreement highlights renewable energy, green business practices, e-commerce, financial technology, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure as areas for collaboration.

Al-Haj Tawfiq described the agreement as a practical step toward stronger private-sector ties and new partnerships between Jordanian and Ethiopian businesses.

He said Ethiopia represents a promising African market and a strategic gateway to East Africa and the Horn of Africa.

With more than 130 million people, Ethiopia offers significant economic potential, resources and investment opportunities for Jordanian businesses seeking new markets.

Potential partnerships include pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, food industries, fertilizers, chemicals, information technology, renewable energy, healthcare and education.

Logistics, entrepreneurship and digital transformation also offer opportunities for businesses seeking to turn economic potential into practical projects.

Al-Haj Tawfiq stressed that expanding ties with Africa can help Jordan diversify its export, services and investment markets.

He also called for greater exchanges of market information, trade delegations, exhibitions and business meetings to connect companies directly.

The agreement aims to turn growing economic interest into lasting partnerships, giving Jordanian and Ethiopian businesses a stronger bridge toward shared opportunities.
