Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita called on Saturday for prevention to be placed at the heart of Africa’s peace and security strategy.
He spoke in Luanda during the African Union’s 26th Extraordinary Executive Council Session on strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms.
Bourita urged tackling conflicts’ root causes by linking peace, security and development within the continent’s preventive framework.
He said Morocco fully supports the session’s orientation and backs greater investment in factors that sustain lasting peace.
The minister stressed that implementing the Luanda action plan requires coherence between the African Union and the United Nations.
He said financing mechanisms must strictly follow the Union’s established budget procedures.
Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to the plan and its implementation matrix, Bourita added.
The summit stems from a February 2026 decision by AU heads of state calling for stronger conflict prevention financing.
The session will conclude with adoption of the Luanda action plan and its implementation matrix.
