13 dead, three reported missing due to floods in Sudan’s Red Sea State

The Eiram area in the Suakin locality of the Red Sea State witnessed heavy rain and floods that swept away several houses, public facilities, and health centers. The floods resulted in the drowning of 13 people, while three individuals are reported missing.

Damages to healthcare, government institutions, markets, and houses, and the deaths of some animals were reported, as well as the lack of drinking water.

The Director-General of the Health Sector, Dr. Ahlam Abdel Rasoul Musa, led a delegation from the Ministry of Health, along with a representative from the World Health Organization (WHO) and specialized emergency and environmental health departments.

They assessed the overall health conditions in the Suakin locality and the current epidemiological situation in the Eiram area, which was affected by the recent damages caused by floods and heavy rains.

The Director-General of the Health Sector emphasized the importance of integrated efforts between the locality and the health sector to prevent diseases and epidemics. The ministry expressed readiness to work and implement preventive measures.

The locals and leaders from the Eiram area expressed gratitude for the visit from the Ministry of Health, considering it the first government delegation to inspect the area after the rainfall.
