A New Dawn: Dagalo leads bold TASIS push to rebuild Sudan

In a move signaling a dramatic shift in Sudan’s political landscape, the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) has appointed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo—commonly known as Hemeti—as chairman of its newly formed 31-member leadership council.

The announcement, made Monday in Nyala following weeks of internal deliberations, marks what TASIS leaders describe as the beginning of a new era—one rooted in unity, justice, and a shared commitment to ending decades of war and elite domination.

For the first time, Sudan’s fragmented civil, political, and armed groups are uniting under a coherent and transformative roadmap. The council, according to its architects, aims to build an inclusive, secular, and federal state, where voluntary unity replaces forced nationalism and equality is more than a slogan.

“This is not another short-term alliance,” said Alaa Eldin Awad Nugud, named official spokesperson. “TASIS is a foundational platform. We are here to dismantle the old Sudan, not manage it.”

Alongside Dagalo, long-time SPLM-North leader Abdel Aziz Adam Al-Hilu was appointed Deputy Chairman, and Makin Hamid Tirab will serve as Rapporteur. These selections reflect a broader coalition of armed and civilian actors rallying around a shared mission: ending Sudan’s cycle of violence by addressing its root causes—centralized power, identity exclusion, and the fusion of religion and state.

TASIS leaders stressed that their project is open to any force, political or military, that rejects authoritarianism and war, and is ready to work toward a radically just and democratic future.

Formed earlier this year through the Sudan Founding Charter and interim constitution, TASIS positions itself as the first serious state-building initiative in Sudanese history built on principles of secularism, federalism, and genuine equality. For a country long trapped in the ruins of broken promises, many hope this could be the beginning of something real.
