Kenyan activists have called for protests in Nairobi and an independent probe into the abduction of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye.
Besigye, once personal physician to President Yoweri Museveni, was seized in Kenya in November 2024 and later charged with treason.
Rights group Vocal Africa said the rendition circumvented Kenya’s Extradition Act, bypassing arrest warrants, lawful requests and judicial proceedings entirely.
Kenya’s foreign minister Musalia Mudavadi admitted last year that authorities had cooperated with Uganda in Besigye’s transfer to custody.
Besigye has been hospitalized four times since his arrest, and his wife said he returned to prison against medical advice.
Activists blamed Museveni’s son and military chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba, demanding his suspension amid Uganda’s deepening political repression.
