The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an extremist group active in eastern Congo, has carried out another brutal attack, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 people and the displacement of many more.
The attack, which took place in the Oicha-Tenambo area of North Kivu province, saw the rebels use firearms and machetes to terrorize the local population. Houses were burned, a school was destroyed, and numerous civilians were injured or abducted.
The ADF, known for its brutality and links to the Islamic State, has been responsible for numerous atrocities in the region, including mass killings, sexual violence, and recruitment of child soldiers. The group’s presence has destabilized the region and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.
The Congolese government and international community must take decisive action to combat the ADF and protect civilians. This includes strengthening security forces, improving intelligence gathering, and addressing the root causes of the conflict, such as poverty, inequality, and political instability.
