African Union delivers military aid to Somalia for security boost

Somalia received a substantial shipment of military equipment from the African Union on Thursday.

The delivery included armored vehicles, helmets, vests, and essential logistical supplies.

Somalia’s Foreign Ministry stated the equipment aims to strengthen the nation’s security infrastructure.

This support is also intended to contribute significantly to regional stability.

The ministry expressed deep gratitude to the African Union for its ongoing and crucial assistance.

This aid bolsters regional security, supports institutional growth, and advances counterterrorism efforts.

Somalia reaffirmed its shared commitment with the AU to foster lasting stability and progress across the continent.

The UN Security Council approved a new AU mission in Somalia in December 2024.

This new mission, AUSSOM, replaces a previous AU force to combat al-Shabaab militants.

AUSSOM will operate for an initial period of one year, further supporting Somalia’s security objectives.

The recent equipment shipment marks a significant step in these collaborative efforts.
