Airstrikes by Burhan-led forces kill over 100 civilians in Sudan

A devastating series of airstrikes by General Abdel Fattah al Burhan-led troops on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of over 100 civilians and left dozens more injured.

The strikes targeted the Turah Market in the northern region of North Darfur, located near the capital, Fasher.

The attack, which destroyed the market and surrounding infrastructure, is described by the Emergency Lawyers Group as a “horrific massacre.”

Activists shared footage showing the extensive damage caused by the bombings, highlighting the scale of the devastation in this rural area.

The group condemned the airstrikes as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, calling the act a war crime under both the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

The lawyers emphasized the deliberate targeting of civilians and demanded immediate action to end impunity for such crimes.

In response, the Umma National Party also condemned the attack, labeling it a “complete war crime” and urging both international and local organizations to document the tragedy.

They called for an independent investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable.

The party further criticized the ongoing war, which they argued is claiming the lives, security, and stability of the Sudanese people.

They called for a comprehensive peace settlement to end the violence and restore stability to the country.
