Amid escalating security concerns, Norway announces closure of Mali embassy

Due to the escalating security conditions in the West African nation, Norway has chosen to shutter its embassy in Mali by the conclusion of this year, as confirmed by the foreign ministry on Thursday.

Norway’s choice to close its embassy in Bamako follows a U.N. Security Council consensus to conclude a ten-year-long peacekeeping undertaking in Mali, identified as MINUSMA after the military junta, which took control in July, requested the withdrawal of the force.

“This will have consequences for the security of Norwegian and other diplomatic missions and international organisations in Mali,” the foreign ministry said in a statement, referring to MINUSMA’s departure.
