Arab-African summit in Saudi Arabia postponed for urgent meetings on Gaza

Saudi Arabia decided on Tuesday to postpone the fifth Arab-African summit due to the current developments in Gaza. The summit was scheduled for 11 November in Riyadh.

In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced it coordinated with the Arab League and the African Union (AU) to postpone the fifth Arab-African summit to a time to be determined later.

The ministry said that the ongoing crisis and the serious humanitarian repercussions in Gaza necessitated the holding of an extraordinary Arab summit and an Islamic summit.

Israel has launched air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on 7 October.

At least 10,328 Palestinians, including 4,237 children and 2,719 women, have been killed since then. The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is nearly 1,600, according to official figures.

Besides the large number of casualties and massive displacements, basic supplies are running low for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents due to the Israeli siege.
