At least 30 people were killed on Sunday when a trailer crashed in northern Nigeria’s Kano state, according to local officials.
The truck, travelling toward Gujungu, reportedly lost control after reckless driving, leaving mangled vehicles and scattered debris along the road.
Many others were seriously injured in the crash, Kano State government spokesman said, describing the scene as devastating and chaotic.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ordered free medical treatment for all survivors, directing hospitals to provide immediate and comprehensive care.
Deadly road accidents are common in Nigeria, where poor infrastructure and weak enforcement of traffic laws endanger daily travel.
In 2023, the Federal Road Safety Corps recorded 5,421 deaths from 9,570 road accidents nationwide, underscoring a persistent national crisis.
