At least 70 members of Ansar al-Sunna were killed in Mozambique

“In an operation targeting the terrorist organization Ansar al-Sunna in Mozambique, at least 70 people were killed.

According to Mozambique Television (TVM), an operation was conducted against armed groups in the northern Cabo Delgado region of the country.

At least 70 members of the organization were killed in the operation. Images of the lifeless bodies of the organization’s members were shared on television.

Rwandan soldiers supporting the fight against terrorism in the country also participated in the operation.

Since 2017, nearly 4,000 people have lost their lives and hundreds of thousands have been displaced due to attacks by the terrorist organization Ansar al-Sunna targeting civilians in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado region.

Following the organization’s seizure of strategic points in the region, foreign mercenaries and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) mission commenced counterterrorism efforts.

Under the SADC mission, hundreds of soldiers from Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia are serving in the country. Rwanda is also supporting the fight against terrorism with its special forces.”
