Brutal war exacted heavy price on Sudan, says UN

Clementine Nkweta-Salami, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan, said that five months of brutal war have exacted a heavy price on Sudan.”

She stated that the war in Sudan is one of the fastest-growing displacement crises globally.

In a post on the X platform, she said, “Tomorrow I will brief Member States and media in Geneva on the deepening humanitarian crisis in Sudan”. She urged the world to stand with the people of Sudan, step up to prevent further loss of life and end the suffering.

The capital, Khartoum, continues to witness daily clashes and confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as artillery shelling continued in several areas in Khartoum and the old district of Omdurman.

The conflict has led to widespread clashes, looting and plundering, causing a shortage of food and medicine in Khartoum and other cities. This has forced over five million people to flee their homes.
