Bus crash in South Africa claims twelve lives, injures dozens

A bus carrying over 50 commuters overturned near Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport early Tuesday, leaving 12 dead.

City officials confirmed 45 others sustained injuries in the devastating accident.

The crash occurred on a busy roadway, disrupting traffic and forcing the highway’s closure.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the tragic incident. Initial reports indicate the bus may have been speeding.

Images from the scene depict the bus lying on its side, a stark reminder of the force involved.

A survivor relayed to local news that excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

South Africa grapples with a high rate of road fatalities, despite its modern road infrastructure.

Speeding, reckless driving, and poorly maintained vehicles contribute to the problem.

This tragedy follows another fatal collision on Monday, claiming the lives of four schoolchildren.

Last week, nine people, including a young child, died in a bus accident in KwaZulu-Natal.
