The Confederation of African Football has opened an investigation into potentially unacceptable behaviour after heated clashes ended Algeria’s quarter-final defeat to Nigeria. Tensions flared at full time in Marrakesh, where Nigeria secured a 2–0 victory through second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.
CAF said it had referred the incidents to its disciplinary board, warning that appropriate action would follow if wrongdoing is confirmed. Any sanctions could affect the Super Eagles as they prepare for Wednesday’s semi-final showdown against hosts Morocco.
The governing body also confirmed it is examining separate incidents from Friday’s quarter-final between Morocco and Cameroon in Rabat. Morocco won that match 2–0, but Cameroon’s players protested furiously over refereeing decisions throughout the second half.
Their anger centred on a denied penalty appeal after Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo was challenged inside the area. As the tournament reaches its final stretch, CAF faces growing pressure to uphold discipline and protect the spirit of African football.
