At least 12 people died and many others were injured when a four-story building collapsed in Cameroon’s commercial capital Douala on Sunday.
Addressing journalists at the site, the governor of the Littoral region confirmed that the collapse of the building resulted in the loss of twelve lives, while 31 people, in total, were affected, with the survivors currently receiving medical attention at local hospitals.
The situation was under control and rescue teams were making sure no one remained under the rubble, he said.
The cause of the collapse remained uncertain; however, local residents commented that the building appeared to be in a deteriorated state, with exposed and worn-out rods.
