A Catholic priest has been abducted from his parish residence in Nigeria’s northern Kaduna State, the Catholic Diocese of Zaria said on Wednesday.
Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ezema was seized late on Tuesday at about 11:30 p.m. (0030 GMT Wednesday) from St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rumi, the diocese said in a statement seen by Reuters on Thursday.
The statement did not say whether the abductors had made contact with the church or issued any ransom demands.
Kidnapping for ransom has become widespread in Nigeria, especially in the northwest, where gunmen frequently target members of the clergy, travellers and rural communities.
