Central Somalia tribal clash claims lives of 55, eyewitnesses say

A violent clash between two clans in central Somalia has left at least 55 dead and 155 injured, according to reports from locals and medical authorities.

The conflict erupted over disputes regarding grazing lands and water sources in the Galmudug region, involving the Dir and Marihan clans, former allies in the fight against al Shabaab.

Despite delayed intervention from government forces, the confrontation escalated rapidly. Efforts to quell the violence were hindered by a lack of immediate response from Galmudug officials.

Healthcare facilities treated 115 wounded individuals, and deceased victims were swiftly buried. The conflict subsided following the deployment of federal troops, but tensions remain high, highlighting the urgent need for a lasting ceasefire.
