Chad receives supplies from Turkey for Sudanese refugees

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) sent 1,000 family-size tents to Sudanese families who sought refuge in the Republic of Chad to escape the internal conflict in their country.

This action was in response to a plea made by the Chadian authorities. The tents were transported via a cargo plane operated by Turkish Airlines.

The tents were delivered to Chadian authorities on Tuesday at a ceremony held at N’Djamena International Airport, attended by Chadian officials and the Turkish Ambassador to Chad, Kamal Kaygisiz.

In a speech during the ceremony, Kaygisiz stated that Turkey extends a helping hand to those in need wherever they may be, and the embassy supports Chad’s efforts in assisting Sudanese refugees.

Since mid-April of last year, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been engaged in conflicts that a series of ceasefires have failed to halt, resulting in over 9,000 deaths and nearly 6 million internally and externally displaced individuals, according to the United Nations.
