China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the world to listen attentively to Africa’s concerns, emphasizing the importance of addressing the continent’s needs seriously at the G20 summit in South Africa.
Speaking to the gathering of G20 foreign ministers, Wang declared, “We must listen to what Africa has to say and support its actions for peace and development.”
The meeting, which took place in Johannesburg, marked a historic moment as the first G20 summit held in an African city. South Africa, the sole African member of the G20, currently holds the presidency of the group.
Wang’s message highlighted Africa’s significance, urging global leaders to respect the continent’s priorities. He stated that it was critical to “leave a distinct African mark” on the summit, underscoring the urgency of integrating Africa’s perspective into global discussions.
The summit, which spanned two days, marked a significant milestone in the G20’s history, as the African Union joined the bloc as its 21st member last year.
“This year represents an ‘African moment,’” Wang affirmed, reinforcing China’s steadfast support for Africa’s independence in resolving its own challenges. He reiterated Beijing’s opposition to foreign interference in African nations’ domestic affairs.
As global powers focus on African issues, China’s call for respect and support sets the stage for greater collaboration on the continent’s future development.
