Czech PM’s visit to Nigeria cancelled by hosts for his support to Israel

The Czech News Agency reported that Nigeria cancelled a planned visit by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala to the capital, Abuja, due to the latter’s support for Israel in its conflict with Gaza.

According to diplomatic sources, the cancellation of the visit was a result of the Czech Republic voting against a resolution to ceasefire in Gaza at the United Nations General Assembly on 27 October.

In response, the Czech government spokesperson, Václav Smolka, clarified in a press statement that Nigeria informed them that the situation wasn’t suitable for the visit and for organizing the planned economic forum during the visit.

As a consequence of Nigeria cancelling the visit, the Czech Prime Minister continues his discussions in Cameroon as part of his ongoing African tour, which began on 3 November.

For the past 32 days, the Israeli army has been conducting what has been termed a “destructive war” in Gaza, resulting in 10,328 fatalities, including 4,237 children, 2,719 women, and 631 elderly individuals, as reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza. Over 25,000 others have been injured in the conflict.
