Leaders of the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) were sworn in Saturday in Nyala, South Darfur, launching a civilian administration as war between General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rages on.
Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of the new Presidential Council, took the oath alongside his deputies, including Abdel Aziz al-Hilu of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, and other council members. Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’aishi was sworn in as prime minister before Dagalo and is expected to name his cabinet shortly.
RSF security units ringed the city with tight controls, placing the leaders’ residences under heavy guard, witnesses told The Sudan Times.
The move comes amid escalating clashes between RSF fighters and SAF, with El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, under siege. Mediation efforts by regional and international actors have so far failed to secure a ceasefire or political deal.
