A bus carrying Muslim pilgrims celebrating the birth of Prophet Mohammed crashed in northern Nigeria, killing at least 25 children.
The accident occurred on Sunday in Kaduna state when a speeding bus, overloaded with young adherents of the Tijjaniyya Sufi order, lost control and collided with a truck.
According to officials, the bus was carrying 63 children and the driver was speeding recklessly.
Fifteen people died immediately at the scene, while 48 injured were taken to hospitals. Ten of the injured later died, raising the death toll to 25.
The children were from Kwandare village and were heading to Saminaka for the annual Maulud festivities.
Organizers of the trip reported a higher death toll of 40, with 31 injured.
