Deadly dormitory fire claims 21 lives in Kenya

A tragic fire at a school dormitory in central Kenya has claimed the lives of 21 boys, sparking widespread concerns about safety standards in educational institutions across the country. 

The incident occurred on Thursday night at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri county.

The blaze engulfed a boys’ dormitory, housing over 150 pupils aged between nine and 13. 

Many of the victims were burned beyond recognition, and their charred bodies were found in the collapsed dormitory. 

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and whether negligence played a role.

The tragedy has highlighted the urgent need for improved safety measures in Kenyan schools. 

The National Gender and Equality Commission and other organizations have raised concerns about overcrowding and inadequate fire safety protocols in many educational institutions.

President William Ruto has declared three days of national mourning and ordered a thorough investigation into the disaster. 

As families continue to grieve the loss of their children, the nation grapples with the devastating consequences of this preventable tragedy.
